[access-uk] skype microphones

Hi,
Looking for some hints for microphones to use with skype.
Looking on google, they seem to come in many varieties and prices.
I am not fond of wearing headsets with trails of wire following me
around so perhaps a phone type of interface or maybe a wireless
headset?
I notice that some of them are described as usb connection but I
assumed that the normal connection would be via the sound card?
Any help in unravelling this would be good.
