Forgot to say there are also the true call units to both filter incoming
calls and act as an answering machine, but they do cost quite a bit
depending on your specific requirement etc.

conjunction with a BT landline.
Possibly in conjunction with wireless handsets, but this isn't essential.
As it may be used in a noisy environment, good audio quality and volume are
also quite important, but less so if wireless handsets are involved.
Function is imperative, cost is a moderate consideration.
Buy cheap, buy twice!
