This is only a thought. In the box with your dongle did you get a swipe card? Sims often come with one so you can top up over the counter at many supermarkets and other places. You hand over the card which is designed for use with your particular sim and pay over the counter. I don't know if you get one or not but it would be a way. Luckily you have a gig to use which should be plenty for now.

Hi Dean this is strange I have just tried this number and it says this number is no longer active. many thanks for giving the info though. it says go to top up on your usb stick software. if I do that it goes online to register on vodafone but once registered it asks you to create a pin and when this is done the site says error. well I am tuning late tomorrow then a chess tournament all weekend in Derby so next week may have to pay a visit to vodafone in Leeds. it is amazing how many numbers I tried and kept being transferred from department to another. Steve yes as Annabel says the sim is in the usb stick. on the side of the stick is a micro sd card slot for a 4 gig card. there is a text message part of the software but to top up surely I need my credit card details on the vodafone site.
thanks all. let you all know how I go next week. thanks for all the help.
