I would have thought bringing out an IE version of that add on would be a
better idea, for those who have always used IE.

The ability to solve CAPTCHA is almost in itself a good enough reason for
installing Firefox.

Not true! If you use firefox there is an add on called Webvisum that solves
captchas for you.
