Thanks, Melissa. This is good to let the band know in detail how we are
doing financially.
We were getting around $13,000 from the city in the last good years. We
got around $6000 the last time we got funding, which was for the 20-21
fiscal year. Melissa, You probably just left off a zero there. The
regular cultural contracts program didn't operate at all for 21-22, so we
got nothing from that. I think we got $20,000 from that relief program,
but I don't remember for sure or when that happened. Tom applied for that
one, so he might remember more of the details. At any rate, that is why we
have $33K in the bank right now and not around $13K.
Our staff expenses are normally higher, but folks have been kind enough to
take a big cut during these difficult times. We really should get them
back to where they were, which is around $4000 or so. More if we do guest
artists or masterclasses.
You might somehow nicely mention that if band members, friends and family
of band members, etc want to make a contribution, it is fully tax
deductible and could go a long way in helping to keep ACWE running.

Hi band,
In an effort to be more transparent, below is a summary of where we
received and spent money for our 2021-2022 financial year. As a reminder,
due to covid, we only played Spring and Independence day concerts during
that year.
A couple of things to note about the numbers:
1. We operated at a $4,000 deficit last year. Obviously, to be
sustainable, we need to break even each year.
2. The City of Austin is restructuring its arts grant program starting
this year. In the (pre-pandemic) past, we were receiving ~$10k in grant
money from the city each year. That grant program was very limited last
year (we got $600) since it is funded by hotel taxes and hotels weren't
making much money then, but we were able to apply for and receive an Arts
Community Relief Grant from the city for $5.3k, in addition to the normal
arts grant.
With the restructuring of the grant program this year, we are expecting to
get much less, if any, grant money from the city.
*This essentially means we need to find ways to either reduce our spending
or start bringing in an additional $10k each year.*
