The Great Falls Municipal Band, just completed it 127th consecutive summer
"Mini-Muni" concert season. With the guidance of the Cascade County Health
Department, and the City of Great Falls, we performed 8 concerts of small
ensembles on our 80 some year old Band Shell. We had groups of 4 to 12
separated by 6 feet, each musician was responsible for their own chairs,
stands, and masks when not performing.
We encouraged our audience to also observe social distancing and when that was
not possible recommended the wearing of masks. We received compliments from
our audience, in showing off each section of the band, instead of the whole
band. Lots of folks never really heard the double reeds, or flutes separately.
We had parts transcribed from the full band to fit the groups of Clarinets, Low
Brass, Trumpets, Horns, etc. The season finale featured out Jazz Band, and it
too was pretty much socially distanced.
Montana was fortunate to have shut down early with quarantining, , and a small
and normally distanced population anyway, our infection rate was one of the
lowest in the country. Not sure we could have pulled it off in Seattle,
Denver, or LA though.

Our band (The VFW Band of Colorado) has been rehearsing for a few weeks. We
can't practice inside because of mandatory mask requirements. We found a VFW
with a covered patio to rehearse on. Only able to do small outdoor concerts
for now.
