Question: what is different about this rocket over the past successful
ones,i.e. what changes,if any, were made?

My guess, pure speculation. They were coming up on battery swap. As
batteries drain, voltage drops. To maintain power level in the electric
pump motors, current must increase as voltage drops. Increased current
increases heating of all components with resistances, they aren't using
superconductors. If the two motors are identical, the motor driving the
higher density LOX pump would have to work harder than the Kerosine. So if
one of them is going to overheat and fail, it would be the LOX pump motor,
probably the controller that converts the DC into high frequency AC to
drive the motor.
Any other guesses?
