I have a question for the group:
What would you want to see in a lab Section for a fluids class ?
The concept is either a set of tools (like an electronics kit)
for the students to perform some function, or a demonstration for
the instructor to show, and let the students experiment with.
The sections that I have considered, in no order or association, are:
1) Pressure and temperature and other instrumentation.
2) Flowmeter (venturi , Turbine, Coriolis, ultrasonic) and compare
to fluid change (weight, volume, sight glass, or a bucket).
3) Turbine and/or pumps
4) Spray and mixing (multi-color water!)
5) Valves, and throttling,
6) Orifices, venturi and cavitation/Mach choke
7) Filling tanks and Blowdown emptying
8) If any cryo allowed, then we can show off some LN2 precautions
9) No possibility of lox or fuel, but could demonstrate oxidizer cleaning
10) Probably not allowed, but a steam rocket would be a good finale
The kit I we are thinking about probably doesn't have room for thinks like
a wind tunnel or fluid tank, but is more plumbing oriented.
This obviously has an Aerospace/Rocket focus, but I'm interested in
more things to cover and what is most important.
