I don't remember the L* of the CH4K engine I built, but I do remember
coming out of it convinced that miscible easily vaporized propellants need
much lower L* than non-miscible sludge like kerolox.
That was with a pintle with fairly low dp, and no instability. We did chill
both plumbing in with their propellants. A bit risky in horizontal testing,
but it mostly didn't go bang.
