Dewars are typically rented from the LOX supplier. They are mostly 180
liter capacity although my preference is a 230 liter on casters. It makes
for an easy to handle lab supply that can be located wherever the need
arises. I have not ever seen a 180 liter that didn't need a hand truck or
dolly to move it around.
All dewars self pressurize if the vent is shut. They also typically come
with an internal heat exchanger coil attached to a pressure builder
regulator. This allows you to select the point to which you want the
liquid pressurized.
Purchasing refurbed dewars is possible but their prices can be high. They
are an extremely durable capital investment and they usially get snapped up
by the big companies. My preference would be one manufactured by Chart
industries. I visited their plant in Ballground, GA several years ago and
they make a good cryogen vessel.
There is a 450 liter Dewar available and it is typically bolted to a steel
pallet so handling requires pallet jack and/or forklift. Beyond that size
you are really talking about a fixed position supply vessel as they are
quite heavy to move about.
