Holdup I thought the rule of thumb was 45 (somewhere between 40 and 50) inches
for kerosene/RP1? Methane is longer and hydrogen is shorter; though I’ve never
worked with ethanol, a little bird told me that 40 inches is supposed to work
well with a 75% ethanol-water dilution and a 1.45 O:F ratio

Subject: [AR] Re: Lox - Ethanol(70%) Characteristic Length(L*) advice
Ethanol vaporizes better than Kerosene which has an L* of about 60" but the
injector design has a large bearing on effective vaporization and combustion in
which c* efficiency is also affected.

Hello,
I’m about to build an 1000lbf LPRE with LOx - Ethanol(70%) as propellant.
I’ve been researching with the characteristic length(L*) of these propellant
combination with no success of finding any.
It would be of great help if somebody could help me with this subject.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
