John, only 2/6 legs locked I guarantee that it was sitting on the skirt. Check
your spam folder for a pic of the rip in lox tank showing fire within said
tank.

Yup, I can't remember the number of films I've seen of Atlas launch
failures but everytime I see one it's usually one I've not seen before.
Was it in the dozens? And DOD didn't have the same test philosophy that
SpaceX/Musk has.

Yeah, and there's a reason why engineering moved away from that. :-)
But yeah, part of the engineering data they appear to be getting is
about the Raptor design. There's a world of difference between getting
one to run on a stand and in a steady state "hop". And an equally large
jump from that to starting and stopping them while involved in energetic
vehicle maneuvers.
Yes, things involving serious dynamics are hard to sort out except in
flight test, and that just has to be allowed for.
