I’m still studying the insulation weight trade-off but I did realize one
advantage of the spiral approach.
The diameter of an end burner defines the diameter of the rocket casing. But
in the spiral grain rocket, you can trade off length for area and thereby get
a smaller diameter for the same burning area.
That may be an important characteristic in applications like missiles and
microlaunchers.
