What happened to XCOR Aerospace?

Same thing that happens to a lot of startups, although usually more quickly: things took longer than expected, available investment was finite, and they hit the end of the money before they started being self-supporting.

The predicted flight date for Lynx was "probably next year" for year after year after year -- pretty obviously the difficulty and cost had been underestimated -- and the supply of paying outside work on engine technology (etc.) was uneven and it sometimes came with more headaches than profit. Eventually things got tight enough that first management got rearranged and then Lynx was officially put on hold -- bad signs -- and the hopes of getting things back on an even keel with more engine work evidently didn't pan out.
