Way back when we started we used a hydroponics dissolved solids meter
but that only read PPM of TDS. I now have instruments that will
read PPB for phosphates and tin, and very accurate PH meter.

So what's a good way of confirming this? (I believe the overall level
of ionic solute can be checked by measuring the conductivity, similarly
as with water - do you know of a way of determining whether the phosphate level is low enough not to cause problems?)
