This morning I birded the Elk Garden, Corn Valley, Mountain Road and Clifton Farm Road areas of Russell County. It was a great morning of birding. At Elk Garden there was a Loggerhead Shrike, in Corn Valley there were two immature Golden Eagles soaring high above Beartown Mountain. On Mountain Road the Eastern Screech-Owl known as Peggy's Owl was at home. In the Clifton Farm area I saw a Golden Eagle perched in a tree next to the road. It was about 1/4 mile away but as soon as I parked the truck close to the tree it flew across the road and began soaring over the field. It continued soaring over the field for at least 5 minutes then it dived towards the ridge and a second Golden Eagle took flight and eventually followed the first over the ridge line. A few minutes later I saw the second Eastern Screech-Owl perched in a hole in a Locust tree.
