I arrived home at the right time yesterday afternoon. As is my habit during this hawk migration season, I looked up when I got out of the car & there were 2 raptors overhead. I grabbed my binos from the car & found them to be a Turkey Vulture & a juvenile Bald Eagle circling in a thermal directly over our property. I went on to spend the next hour birding our place w/some good results. Gray Catbirds, Mockingbirds,Cardinals & Rose-breasted Grosbeaks were busy in the pokeberries while Chipping Sparrows & Palm Warblers searched the yard. The weedy tangles along the creek produced a couple of Common Yellowthroats & a House Wren. A Lincoln's Sparrow popped up from the weeds along the fence & a small group of Yellow-rumped Warblers foraged in the nearby trees.A Cooper's Hawk's failed attempt to snare a Blue Jay rounded out the afternoon's activities.
