I started to Whitetop Mtn. this morning but the top of mtn. was shrouded in fog, so I opted to go to Beartree Lake instead. I was not disappointed. Despite the cool weather the birds, warblers in particular, were very active. Within minutes I had several including black-throated green, hooded, yellow-rumped, black and white, yellow-throated and a worm-eating warbler. There were also plenty of ovenbirds, blue-headed vireos and a surprise red-breasted nuthatch. Later, I saw a lone male mallard on the lake and a red-shouldered hawk perched in a tree. Once I was caught in the middle of a feirce territorial conflict between two hooded warblers. They seemed just inches away a couple of times. Had a great time and oh yeah, by the way, got to see what I had came for, black-throated blue warblers (about six of them). Very nice! Daryl O Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Smartphone
