Hi All, Attached is a chart showing the comparison of the Breaks CBC data of 2006 to that of the recently finished 2007 data. This chart shows only the species and numbers recorded by members of the BCBC and not the total count. The final count will be made by the count compiler, Terry Owens of the Breaks Park. What is surprising about this data is that we actually got more species and more birds on this year's count than we did in 2006. There was a noticeable drop in the numbers of some species like Downy Woodpeckers, Blue Jays, Eastern Bluebirds, American Robins, Eastern Towhees, Song Sparrows, White-throated Sparrows, Dark-eyed Juncos and American Goldfinches. This, at least in part, may be attributed to the lack of natural foods caused by the April freeze and the prolonged summer drought. A few species that had higher numbers than last year were Turkey and Black Vultures, Mallards, Mourning Doves, Belted Kingfishers, American Crows, Carolina Chickadees, Tufted Titmice, Golden-crowned Kinglets and Northern Cardinals. I have nothing to offer to explain why these species were found in larger numbers this year. Roger Mayhorn Compton Mt
