The Russell Co Bird Club will be hosting a field trip to Hampton Creek Cove
Natural Area, Roan Mtn State Park and Carvers Gap, in Carter Co Tn. This trip
is usually very productive and yields high elevation nesting birds such as
Canada Warblers, Alder Flycatchers, Vesper Sparrows, along with Rose-breasted
Grosbeaks, Golden-winged Warblers and a host of other great species. If you
would like to attend this trip we will be leaving from Tinseltown Theater
parking lot off Exit 7 on I-81 at 7:00am. If you would like to meet us at
Hampton Creek Cove we should arrive around 8:30 in the parking lot. The
fields are usually very wet so bring appropriated foot wear or a change of
shoes. A bathroom is not available at Hampton Creek Cove, but we will be
birding Picnic Area #1 in the state park and it does have regular facilities.
A pit toilet is available at Carvers Gap. I would suggest packing a lunch.
If time permits we may bird Quarry Bog, Orchard Bog and School Yard Springs
in Shady Valley Tn. In years past we have had Virginia Rails at Quarry Bog,
and coming back along HWY 421 we usually add Blackburnian and Prairie
Warblers. We hope to see ya, all are invited to attend. If you have any
question just ask.
