I decided to take a trip to clinch mountain fire tower this afternoon, not a lot of activity but, on the way down the mountain I stopped a couple of place to bird. About ¼ mile below the tower I heard a Yellow-billed cuckoo calling. When I got out too investigate, two adult Cuckoos? landed on a branch above me and began to mate. The male had a caterpillar to offer and she accepted it while mating. I thought it would be a little late in the year for Cuckoo?s to be mating. I would appreciate any comments on this late breeding activity. Thanks Mike Sanders Bristol, VA
