Hi All, I tried forwarding this message to the listserve earlier but have had some e-mail problems that are now resolved. Our hearts go out to our friend and fellow birder, Skip McClellan and his wife who live in South Texas and were in the path of hurricane Ike. Read his message and see his photos below. Post Hurricane report from the deep south. We are located 90 miles north of Galveston, Tx. The eye of Hurricane IKE arrived dead center on Conroe, Tx. We had 100+ sustained winds and 12 inches of rain which arrived about 4:00am Saturday a week ago. We lost many mature trees, a couple through the roof of the main house and one on the shop. Our community lost many more. To our saddness we lost a pecan tree behind my shop, which was our main birding area in the back yard. I have attached a couple of pictures. One picture of the tree on the back side of the shop and one of our small woodpecker friends dazed near our back patio. Poor little fellow just sat there for hours. Later he was OK. I saw one female red cardinal with a broken wing but could not catch her. After the storm passed on Sunday, the birds started returning, somewhat confused, with their favorite tree laying on it's side. Guess I will have to put the feeders on poles now in that area. Will miss the ole pecan tree. By the way, I guessed wrong on the Mystery Bird, I also thought it was a Phoebe. Things are much better here now. Most of us have electrical service back. Thank goodness I had a generator. Hope everyone there is doing well. Good Birding Skip McClellan Conroe, Texas
