Yesterday afternoon, Nov. 1, while driving home on the mountain, Lynda and I
were surprised to see 5 Tree Swallows feeding over the pasture at Ronald
Compton's farm. I stopped and got good close looks at them as they swooped
near us. This is a new late date for them in Buchanan County. The previous
late date I have was Sept. 11, 2004 when one was sighted here at our place
on the mountain on Warbler Day. The latest sighting for Tree Swallows in
Dickenson County, not Buchanan, was Oct. 28, 2005 when David Raines saw 4 at
Laurel Lake in the Breaks Park.
