Today a FOS male Redstart was feeding in the tree above the yard pond. This bird was only two days later than the early record for the county. A FOS male Ruby-throated Hummingbird showed up this morning at our feeder - the first of many I hope. Our resident Purple Martins took to the air this afternoon to give chase to a Broad-winged Hawk that came flying over. The hawk and the martins rose quickly on the wind and were soon high against the blue. The hawk left the area and the martins returned to their noisy business of choosing mates and nest compartments. The Yellow-throated Vireo that showed up a couple of days ago was back again today singing in the top of the maple in the backyard. Roger Mayhorn Compton Mt
