Hi All, Yesterday David Raines and I went in search of the Bald Eagle nest reported on the Big Sandy watershed. We found the spot where the nest was to be found and immediately found two adult Bald Eagles. Here is a photo of one of them. We searched the spot where the nest is supposed to be located, but the trees are now in full foliage and the nest is not visible. Those who reported the nest found it before the leaves were out. One of the fellows who found the nest said that he had seen large Bald Eagles' nests in Florida, and this one, though large, is not as large as those. He went on to say that he had seen the eagles at this nest as early as February of this year and as recently as late March. He said he hadn't been back to the area since then. David and I could not get close enough to the nest site for a look at it because the tree where the nest is said to be is situated among other trees atop a sheer cliff. We may have found a way to get to a point where we will be able to see and possibly photograph the nest without getting too close to disturb the eagles of course. I took some photos of the mountainside where the nest is said to be, and later while looking through them I found what looks like a Bald Eagle, though some distance from the camera, sitting among the foliage. You can judge for yourself if you think it is an eagle. Here is the photo. Roger Mayhorn Compton Mt
