Buchanan Birders, Michelle, Chazzy and I took a hike on the Sheltowee Trace Trail along the Horse Lick Creek section in Rockcastle County this morning. It threatened rain a couple of times but never did - making for perfect hiking weather. The biggest surprise were the winter birds we encountered that included Winter Wrens, Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, and Golden-crowned Kinglets. We did find a couple feeder flocks of warblers that included Bay-breasted and Magnolias as the best birds. Fall flowers were everywhere and asters lined the trail.
