Roger, Don and I had planned to do a little birding in the Breaks area on Saturday and then it rained. They both cancelled & I can't blame them with the prospects of a couple of hours driving thru rain to get here only to go birding in the rain! I decided to gear up & go ahead and check some of the spots we had planned to try. The challenge of keeping optics dry was somewhat daunting but the birds were around & I located some interesting species. Here at home, besides the usual bunch, were a Ruby-cr Kinglet, N.Mockingbird,Rusty Blackbird,R-W Blackbird,Field Sparrow & Wh-th Sparrow. The Old Homeplace with it's pond & brushy margins produced a Sedge Wren, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Chipping , Song & Wh-th Sparrows & Golden-cr Kinglets. Lick Creek Recreational Area welcomed me with a Wild Turkey near the entrance followed by Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Great-bl Heron, Kingfisher ,Robins, Flickers & Waxwings.3 Came home by way of Beaver Knob where I found the gate in place. I hiked up to the top & found about 10 Turkeys, Carolina Wrens, many Song & Wh-th Sparrows & a lone Swamp Sparrow. Back home in the PM I noted 11 Starlings, several Field Sparrows, a couple of Bluebirds and a Towhee. Wet but Satisfied, Dave Raines/Breaks
