Fellow birder Clancey Deel came up yesterday to watch the continuing
migration wth me. We had 57 species with 14 warbler species. Another
Wilson's Warbler came down to the yard stream. This is the third Wilson's we
have had in the last few weeks. Late in the day the FOS Palm Warbler came
into the yard. We had two Mockingbirds in the yard. That's something we
hardly ever see.
We saw 4 Black Vultures circling overhead. That might not seem unusual to
most birders, but until 2013 I had not seen a Black Vulture in this area for
40+ years. Since then they have been sighted here on at least 5 occasions.
The thrushes and grosbeaks were really busy yesterday eating the Virginia
Creeper berries. We saw Swainson's, Wood Thrush and Veery. (see photo). Don
Carrier's hanging of the grapes for warblers on Warbler Day proved fruitful.
Two Tennessees, a Scarlet Tanager and a Cardinal all fed on them (see
photo).
