Several members of our local bird clubs headed for the Outer Banks of North
Carolina for the VSO's annual February field trip. Although the weather
could have been nicer, we had a great outing with our group finding 105
species in 2 1/2 days. The entire VSO group found 136. Most of our people
got at least one life bird and as usual, we had a great time with the usual
running commentary. I've posted a detailed report on the web site,

As mentioned above, this is annual trip sponsored by the VSO. The trip has
no registration charge for VSO members. For nonmembers, there is a $20 fee
which includes the trip and membership in the VSO. If two or more members
from the same family participate, the fee is $25 which includes a family
membership in VSO. This is only one of several annual field trips sponsored
by the VSO. Others include a fall trip to Chincoteague on the Eastern Shore
in September and a December trip to Virginia Beach. There is another trip
in the spring that takes place in different places each year. There is also
an annual meeting that moves around the state. This year, it's in Roanoke,
April 29 to May 1. Jane & I have made many birding friends from around the
state since we went to our first annual meeting in 2008 at Mountain Lake.
This is a fairly inexpensive way to bird different areas of Virginia and the
OBX with people who are knowledgeable about where to go to find birds. I
would encourage you to explore this opportunity. This has been an unpaid
