Subject: Sen. Manchin's Dem opponent slammed the Saudi war in Yemen

Dear Miriam,
Spread the news on Manchin.

The National Defense Authorization Act [NDAA] is expected on the House floor on
or around Tuesday, July 11. We're pushing for a House floor vote on an NDAA
amendment to block the U.S. refueling of Saudi warplanes bombing Yemen. The
Rules Committee might only decide the day before which amendments will be
allowed, and the floor voting on amendments might start on Tuesday morning. We
might have less than 24 hours to rally support for our amendment between
learning that it has been allowed and a floor vote.
So we're building support for our amendment now, ahead of the Rules Committee
meeting. As we've said before, in order to win on the House floor, we need
almost all Democrats and 20-25% of Republicans - like we got on the House vote
last June

[1] on blocking the transfer of cluster bombs to Saudi Arabia. To get the
Republicans we need, we're highlighting Republican opposition

to U.S. support for Saudi Arabia's war in Yemen. [2]
To get almost all Democrats, it would help if we could show the worst Democrats
in the House that voting against us isn't a freebie, that there could be
unpleasant blowback from voting for Saudi Arabia's war in Yemen. That's why the
story of Joe Manchin, Paula Swearengin, and U.S. support for the Saudi war in
Yemen is important.
Help spread the word about this by reading and sharing the

Intercept article about Paula Swearengin's opposition to Manchin's vote for
the Saudi war in Yemen.
Joe Manchin is a Democratic Senator from West Virginia. He's one of the worst
Senate Democrats on our issues. He was one of four Senate Democrats who voted
against the Iran nuclear deal. He was one of five Senate Democrats who voted on
June 13 for Trump's Saudi arms deal. He's the only Senate Democrat who both
voted against the Iran nuclear deal and voted for Trump's Saudi arms deal - a
proxy vote on U.S. support for Saudi Arabia's war. Paula Swearengin is a West
Virginia Democrat running against Joe Manchin for Senate. When Joe Manchin
voted for Saudi Arabia's war in Yemen,

Paula Swearengin slammed him for doing so. [3]
When a Member of Congress is attacked for a vote by a primary opponent, people
notice. House Democrats who vote for refueling Saudi bombers could face that
kind of blowback too.
Read and share the
