Maybe the State of Insanity. Cathy and I have reduced our territory
to two counties beginning this past July 1. And the ILOB program
reduced our budget by 20%...actually it came out to be 25%. This
means we serve about 25 clients during the service year, July 1 to
June 30.
But as to beginning a new job in another state? Not going to happen.
I do not have the endurance I would need to do a full time job. I
have slowed way down in the time it takes me to prepare for a
presentation. Stuff I used to toss out from the top of my head, now
takes hours to research. Today, as an example, I began writing our
annual Christmas letter. This is a two page letter that updates our
close friends and distant family members. It took me from 8:10 this
morning, until 3:00 this afternoon. A task I used to do in about an
hour and a half, including the time it took to comb back through my
calendar and pull out the events I want to highlight.
It's funny, I used to make fun of annual Christmas letters. Part of
it was the fact that most of such letters came from family members
wanting to either lead me to Christ, or to brag about what good
Christians they were.
But when we moved into our new home in 1995, I began doing a quick
review of the year's events. Now when I go back and read them, I am
reminded of just how much we can forget or get confused about. We've
talked about making a folder with the entire collection. This we
would present to each of our three children, and as many of our grand
children as were interested.
Sort of a family chronicle. I include no politics or religious stuff,
keeping strictly to bits and pieces of life...and death...among the
Clan.

One of my mentors. Noam Chomsky is 90 years old today. If I were a kid
again I'd say, Noam Chomsky, my Hero!
Other than agreeing with much of his political and philosophical views,
about the only other similarity is that we are both still working.
