KPFA has been doing yet one more fundraiser this week. Dennis Bernstein, on
Flashpoints, always talks about the value of the station's broadcast
content during these fundraisers, and he also offers all sorts of audio and
video premiums to people who donate a lot of money. He talked, last night,
about how he began listening to WBAI in New York in the 60's and then
volunteering there, and he got to know Paul Robeson's son. He then played
excerpts from a set of 8 DVD's which present Robeson's life and work which
one can get if one donates $500, I think. It was the most amazing and
wonderful listening experience. Of course, I've been reading and hearing
about him for years. His voice his phenomenal. Some of the stories about his
career are amazing. I wouldn't spend $500, even if I could just get the
whole thing on an SD card and listen to it on my stream. But I'd surely be
tempted.
