Every once in a while, I return to reading a bit more of that very long, very
detailed book about Obama that was written in 2010 and updated after Trump was
elected. Although it's true that Obama seemed to change some of his positions
on specific issues after he became President, there are certain things about
him that didn't change. He always wanted to be President. He was always
extremely ambitious and many of his life choices were influenced by that facdt.
One example is that he was seriously involved with a woman, part Asian, part
white. They were actually engaged to be married. But one of the reasons that
the relationship ended was that he knew it was politically disadvantageous. He
believed that his career would be better served by being married to an African
American woman. Another thing that never changed, was his tendency to
compromise, to always position himself in the middle, rather than advocating
strongly for one position. My own interpretation of this is that allowed him to
manipulate more skillfully. Interestingly, he gave up the opportunity to have
very lucrative legal positions because he so much wanted to devote himself to
politics.

Miriam,
most likely Senator Kamala Harris will never see my note. Nor will anyone of
any stature in the Democratic National Committee(DNC).
Senator Harris might comment, if the note were sent along to her, and if she
had enough time to read it. But chances are that some mail sorter will take a
quick look, and if interested, maybe send a brief note back, chastising me for
abandoning the Party...over looking the fact that the Democratic Party turned
its back on the American Working Class in order to embrace the wealth being
offered to them.
While I will continue voting for some Democrats, Senators Murray and Cantwell
are good examples, I do so with the understanding that they are up to their
ears in the same contaminated waters as are all elected politicians, and they
can be turned away from important legislation when it does not conform with the
will of their largest financial supporters.
As for King, Robeson and Hedges never being in a position to be elected to the
presidency, or to any public office, that is a strong endorsement for them.
Look at how watered down Barack Obama became when the big donors dropped wads
of money into his eager hands. No, King, Robeson and Hedges have been far
greater influences outside the political circus. While Obama and Trump and all
elected officials have to answer to their "Handlers", King, Robeson and Hedges
answer(ed) only to themselves.

Dear Senator Kamala Harris,
While I support much of your work and many of your positions, I am
saddened to learn that you are not fiercely supportive of the return
of stolen land by Israel back to Palestine, and an end to the
encroachment onto lands already owned by Palestinians. I have watched
our Government dance around the room with Israel while treating the
Arab Population in Israel as if they were the ugly sisters. It's past
time for us Americans to demand that any nation we do business with
must respect all its people as equal. And it's far past time that we
Americans, especially White Americans, take a stand and do no business
with those corporations that do not treat all Americans with respect.
Far too long we have been playing games with our laws, protecting the
White Oligarchy and forcing our citizens of Color to live in Third
World Conditions.
Please tell me what you are doing toward that end.
And tell me what the Democratic Party is doing to once again represent
the American Working Class. I have stopped calling myself a Democrat
after the disgraceful behavior of the Party that once stood for
working class citizens. Even at its best, this Party of the People
discriminated against many of the very people it called upon to
support its candidates and programs.
I am eager to support a new face on the national level, and you do
have many solid points, but until I see strong statements from you,
supporting All the People who are now being held down, I will continue
to search for other choices.

The Democratic Party
-----------------------
Hi, Carl --
This is an inflection moment in the history of our country where we
as a nation need to look ourselves in the mirror and ask: "Who are we?"
Every single one of us can form the answer to that question by
participating in the 2018 midterm election. The fate of our country
is in our hands -- and it's up to us to decide which direction we
will take.
Next year, we have a critical opportunity to show our nation is ready
to move forward. To show that we will fight for our ideals of
justice, equality, and tolerance.
Today, I am asking you to join that fight because our work starts now.
Not next week, or next month, or next November. It starts now, so I
am asking you today:
Make a $3 contribution before the end-of-year fundraising deadline on
Sunday to show you are ready to fight in 2018. Your contribution will
help elect Democrats in all 50 states who will work to get our
country back on track:
http://my.democrats.org/2017-Deadline
This is a moment in time that requires us to fight for our values --
especially in the face of elected officials who think leadership is
about division and hate. I believe we are better than that.
We must create a system where all people have access to affordable
health care. It should not matter where you live, how much money you
make, or whether you have a pre-existing condition. Health care is a
right -- and all people deserve quality care.
We must reform the criminal justice system to ensure it treats
everyone fairly and does not disproportionately arrest and
incarcerate people of color. That means fighting Jeff Sessions'
attempts to revive the failed war on drugs and reforming the cash
bail system that stacks the deck against low-income folks.
We must stand up for immigrants -- including the young people who
depend on DACA and have earned the right to stay in the country they
call home. We made a promise to DREAMers and it is our responsibility
to hold up our end of the deal.
We have a fight in front of us. But we can win it if we stand
together, united.
Contribute $3 or more ahead of Sunday's deadline if you are ready to
elect Democrats everywhere who will stand up for our values. We can't
do it without you:
http://my.democrats.org/2017-Deadline
Together, we'll make calls, knock doors, text, tweet, and march to
remind our neighbors, friends, and family members that the future of
our country is in our hands.
Thanks for all you do.
Kamala Harris
U.S. Senator, California
