Open letter to my president, Barak Obama:
Dear Mister President,
Like you, I feel raging anger and deep despair over hearing the same
mindless murders of Americans through the use of guns. On that, we
agree. But rather than single out such organizations as the National
Rifle Association, I would submit that the core issue is much deeper
within our American Culture.
Mister President, while you and I are grieving over the murders of
Citizens at UCC, in Roseburg Oregon, and the more than 295 mass
murders committed by guns so far this year, 45 of them occurring on
school property, while we are weeping for such violence and asking why
we have come to such a place, you, Mister President, continue to
approve mass murders around the Planet. Just today I hear of
something called, "possible collateral damage", as a hospital in
Afghanistan was accidentally blown apart by bombs, killing dozens of
patients and a staff of Doctors Without Borders.
Where, Mister President, are your tears and anger for this tragic Mass
murder? Were their lives not as precious as those of the UCC
students? Is it your belief that murder can be selective, and by
picking those we determine to kill, we can still maintain ourselves as
Peacemakers?
Mister President, violence begets violence. You understand this. Yet
you shed your crocodile tears for our children murdered at home, while
you bless the murder of little children and innocent people around the
World.
Stop picking on the NRA. They may be gun lovers and given to power
mongering and bully tactics, but they are no more guilty of promoting
violence than are you.
Of course it's pointless to rage at you, Mister President. You are
where you are because you are owned by the Corporate/Military
Establishment. In sucking up to the Power, you are securing the
safety of your own loved ones. That is a natural instinct. But it
becomes ugly when it is done with no regard for the thousands, and
millions of victims who only want the same assurances for their own.
