Well Bonnie, for the sake of discussion, I'll give you George Bush The
First. But even so the Republicans would have to go back to Ike, and
then on back to Teddy Roosevelt, and then to Honest Abe, in order to
even suggest that they had intelligent presidents. And Ike was more
like Obama, not as razor sharp, but very popular. He could have done
the nation some good, but, like Obama, was too indecisive. Teddy
Roosevelt, from this safe place in the future, appeared to be more
given to risk taking. Of course Abe Lincoln is one of those Immortals
who may not be challenged...ever. Of course the Republicans also had
the Three Stooges, Harding, Coolidge and Hoover. As for Reagan, he
was Hollywood's Donald Trump, a grade B actor who proved it by playing
Mister President for 8 years...7 if we consider that he couldn't
remember the last year in office. And of course I almost overlooked
Ford. A man elected to one little congressional district and bumbled
into the vice presidency to fill the corrupt shoes of Agnew. Ford had
to have been more shaken than Truman, when the call came down for him
to step up to the presidency. Probably a decent enough fellow, but if
the Republican Party were a Cadillac, then Ford was a flat tire.
You know what Bonnie, it's a good thing that the positive progress in
this nation comes from the People and forces its way up. What we get
from the top is brown and smelly.
