Here in Massachusetts, we who use the Talking book Library now have the
chance to participate in a pilot project where they give you a refreshable
braille display to read books. I just got my Orbit reader the other day. .
IT not only will read books, but it also can be used as a note taker and can
be connected with a PC, MAC or Bluetooth to a SMART phone.
IF this nasty tax bill passes, I suspect funding for NLS will be impacted
and that would probably mean that distribution of braille displays to
patrons will not go beyond the pilot stage.
Three or four years ago at the ACB Convention, NLS director Karen Kenninger
said it was her goal to get braille displays into the hands of all NLS
patrons who will want and use it. I had expressed that idea many years
before and was told to get my head out of the clouds so when Karen said it
in her presentation, it was love at first sound as far as I was concerned.
IMHO, if this tax bill or anything like it passes, we will be one step
closer to a fascist state.
