Subject: Civic Forum - UTG Design Updates Consultation
Good evening everyone,
Following from this evening's meeting of the Civic Forum, there were updates
shared on the development of the City Centre Masterplan, including the recent
design updates to the proposed renovation for Union Terrace Gardens.
It could also be helpful to make contact and share views with your local
Community Councils as Statutory Consultees in the planning process, in addition
to sharing your own and your group's views in response to the updates
consultation.
Design update for Union Terrace Gardens - Consultation:
The design proposals developed by LDA Design have been updated to include
responses and representations made by Historic Environment Scotland.
For which there should be an additional 21 days from 23rd November to make
consultation responses by contacting the City Council's Planning Department,
with details of the designs available at the following website:

renovation of structures/ statues and toilets; development of ...
There is also a summary of the updates that has been provided, which includes:
1. Building proposals are revised with the intent of mitigating effects on
key heritage assets and their settings:
• The Union Street pavilion moved from prior planning application position
directly behind statues on Union Street to a location set further back from
statues. This is to ensure that 'Edward VII Statue' remains visible, and has a
visual connection to the Gardens and city skyline.
• The proposed building opposite the Burns Statue is set back from the
existing statue and staircase to ensure the statue is visually separated when
viewed obliquely along Union Terrace.
• The Rosemount Pavilion has altered to match the style and form of the
updated design of Union Street and Burns Pavilions.
• Victorian Lavatories / Bathrooms remain retained and refurbished within the
proposals.
2. Realignment of accessible walkway from Union Street into the gardens in
order to avoid structural interface with land adjacent to the railway which has
been request for possible future development of the railway by Network Rail.
_
Sincerely,
Jonathan Smith
