Good evening everyone,
Thank you for sharing the updates and information with us all, Pauline and
Marianne.
I believe there had also been some recent changes to the licensing application
rules and regulations at a recently held meeting of Council Committee which may
lead to a difference in the way trading stalls operate in and around the
community.
In recent meetings of the Community Council, there had been discussion of the
increased numbers of those travelling to Fittie on foot and in tour buses, and
of the impact that was being experienced for whom Fittie is their home, and
where everyone should be able to live safely and comfortably. Something which
has been made increasingly challenging with the larger numbers of those
visiting and touring the village, as well as the conduct and behaviour of some
of those who are.
In addition, it is also important that there are adequate disposal and waste
facilities available if and when such licenses for trading are granted, to
ensure that there is at the very least a mitigation but ideally prevention of
any further waste building up and being disposed of along the beach area, which
could lead to further damage to the environment and health concerns for those
living nearby.
There should also be consideration as to the concentration of venues in one
place, as this could lead to an unprecedented level of competition for local
cafes and restaurants who are already experiencing great difficulty in being
able to stay open and continue to stay financially viable.
Based on previous discussions at meetings of the Community Council and in
conversation with those in the community, investment and interest from traders,
businesses, visitors and others to the city has always been welcomed, but
should be managed appropriately rather than leading to a number of unforeseen
consequences for those who live in the community, as well as those looking to
invest or visit.
-
I would recommend that this should be an item for consideration for this
month's meeting of the Community Council, as something that we could make a
representation to and recommendations on to Councillors and to the City Council
before the year ahead.
Sincerely,
Jonathan

Hi all,
Thanks for flagging this on up, Pauline.
I don’t remember seeing info on a trading licence application for a double
decker bus like this either.
The location is similar to the one applied for in another planning application
for a fast food van in October, see attached.
However, that one was for a Citroen Relay light van (reg.No. SO57UJR), which I
haven’t seen yet down there (or maybe missed seeing it). So presumably this van
is still to come?
Whilst I generally don’t mind if someone wants to make a living in a place
where there is demand, I question whether several vans should be allowed a
license down between Footdee and the beach cafes. Are they needed, or have we
not reached an over-supply already? There are several cafes in the buildings by
the amusements, and surely these van traders impact on the trade of the local
businesses? Who assesses whether new trading licenses undermine the trade of
existing businesses?
I do also have a concern about litter increasing. Whilst mobile traders are
usually responsible and provide waste bins, that does not mean that all
customers will use them. There will always be some folk that don’t care much.
So more local sources for food wrappers/cups and more users are likely to mean
more rubbish flying around. A lot of what is dropped on the promenade flies
along southwards, ultimately gathering in the alleyway at the back of the North
Square houses.
Regards,
Marianne

Good afternoon, all,
Further to discussion at last month's meeting, today I saw a second trader
near the previously discussed trader-a double decker bus declaring
him/herself as a 'mobile cafe''.
Did anyone see a licensing application from this latest trader who wants to
jump on the tails of the beach/ Fittie free for all? Or did it slip past
before CPCC could comment?
Please let me know.
Kind Regards
Pauline
