Good evening William,
Thank you for sharing the updates for this week's Planning Application list.
BT Kiosks with Digital Displays
It looks like most of the applications would be for the 'BT Phone Kiosks with
Digital Displays', as part of the national phone-booth review.
Previous Consultation, National Phone-Booth Service
I remember preparing a response with members where we stated that even though
mobile phone and other devices have become more prevalent, it can still be
helpful to have phone booths in place for those who may not have access to
mobile phones, and as a point of contact in possible emergency situations, etc
In looking through the Design & Supporting Statements for each of the
applications, as well as the 'InLink' website it looks like these applications
will be to replace the existing 'Phone Booth's with Digital Kiosk that includes
provision of free Wi-Fi internet access, phone-calls, emergency calls, air
quality information and more.
Recommendations
I would have some concern that there could be a potential loss of privacy with
the absence of the 'sheltered booth' style of the traditional phone-box, which
is a concern that we could include in the response.
However, I would also recommend that overall that the presence of the kiosks
will be of benefit to many in the community, especially as an alternative to
the initial proposal put forward by BT and other telecoms companies of complete
withdrawal of the service.
Statement and Response
I'd suggest if we would like to consider preparing an overall statement of
support for each of the applications included?
I shall be able to prepare a draft statement with William for consideration,
either this or next week if we would like to proceed?
-
As always, if if anyone has any recommendations or views to include you are
also very welcome to let us know.
Sincerely,
Jonathan
