Thank you everyone for all the work that has gone into getting CVARC moving
forward again. I was happy to see 11 people attending the meeting last night.
One area that needs more work is a CVARC club radio station. Several people
have told me that they are interested in helping to find equipment and build it
into a station. What we don't have is a location for it.
I would ask all of you to think about possible locations, ask around friends,
acquaintances, anyone who might have suggestions for a location.
Here are a few possible ideas, but I am sure there are many other possibilities.
-- An emergency center (police, fire, etc.) that is interested in getting
support from ham radio communications
-- A local ham with a barn, shed, garage, etc. in the back yard that would be
willing to let the club set up a station there
-- A small local business owned by a ham who may have a room available that
could be dedicated to the club station
Be creative and talk to as many people as you can find! The club station does
not need to be in any particular town or area, and doesn't need to be near the
downtown Barre location where we hold our monthly meetings. Anywhere in
central Vermont should be considered.
What is needed to make a reasonable location for the club station?
-- Long-term access, at least one year. It takes too much time to build it if
we have to pull out in a few months.
-- Ability to install permanent HF and VHF/UFH antennas of reasonable size and
height
-- Access to reliable 120V electrical power
-- Access to a bathroom
-- Access inside and outside business hours, as close to 7x24 as possible.
Access on evenings and weekends is particularly important, but ability to
operate all night in occasional contests is highly desirable.
Please do some creative thinking, and share your ideas with me on email or
bring them to the Steering Committee meeting on March 15 at 6 PM in the Falls
General Store, Northfield Falls, VT.

Cathy
