Sent you a list of stations worked via separate email. The Plattsburgh
station was KC2TLW and the preamp here certainly helped with him. Duane I
think was WL7CVD in Burlington and he was on at the end before I signed off.
Most of the multi mode radios for 2M have rather poor noise figures and
thus a pre-amp can make a huge difference, so might be worth considering.
Although a higher/longer/or both antenna could also help. Except for that
hill on the other side of your road you have a pretty good QTH. Will be
interesting how well you can do with W1FKF at his new QTH in central NH.
He's super loud here with just a simple and low antenna. Towers and large
antennas will be going up in the spring..

I heard you working someone over in Plattsburgh, and I could sort of hear
him, but not well enough to work him SSB. Could easily have worked him CW.
I think I am a bit of an alligator on 2m SSB. May want to experiment with
a preamp until I can get my 2m beam up higher.

Reminder: tonight, December 10, we will again be running an informal test
net, this time on 2 meter SSB.
The frequency will be 144.900 MHz USB. The net will begin at approximately
8:30 PM, after the CVARC net on 146.625/145.47/146.82 ends.
Even if you don't have a great 2 meter beam antenna, try using your
existing J-pole, vertical, or other 2 meter FM antenna. While
horizontal antennas work better, use your vertical if that's what's

I've known Jeanne for a while although never met Jozef other than some on
the air QSOs. She asked me over a year ago if I'd help get the tower and
antennas down for the taking. I was in need of two or three sections of
the Rohn tower and told her I'd donate the antennas to CVARC since she
didn't want any payment. Was lucky to get Mike, N1JEZ to help this summer
as it would have been a major project otherwise. Bottom line- she got the
tower cleared out, I got some tower sections and CVARC go an HF Yagi and 2M
Cushcraft (The Wide Band model no less, so good on both low end and FM part
of the band. Still hoping that someone in the Club will make use of those
antennas.
