CityTram Extension Project Constructionupdate – Stages 4 and 5
Monday1 January 2018 (10pm) to Monday15 January 2018 (6am)
TheState Government has committed
$80million in funding for the first stage
ofthe AdeLINK tram network to the
city’sEast End.
Thisproject will deliver a one-kilometre
extensionof the tram line along North
Terrace,from King William Street to East
Terrace,and a 350 metre extension north
alongKing William Road to the Festival
PlazaPrecinct.
Whencomplete, new services will provide
accessto the bustling East End shopping,
restaurantand tourism precinct, while further
invigoratingthe city's cultural and education
boulevard.
Thenext stage of works will commence
10pmMonday 1, January 2018.
ProjectStaging:
Theproject has been staged to minimise
disruptionwhere possible to Christmas retail,
eventsand cultural and university calendars.
Stage1: Night-time enabling works:

Stage4 - Intersection of NorthTerrace and King WilliamStreet:
Stage4 will involve the installation of tram
tracksat the intersection of North Terrace and
KingWilliam Street, including matching into the
existingtram lines. New overhead wires will
alsobe installed.
Stage4 works will be undertaken from
10pmon Monday 1 January 2018 until 6am
Monday15 January 2017, with works
occurring24 hours a day.
Undertakingthese works 24 hours a day will
assistto minimise disruption. Works at the
intersectionwill continue at night until
22January 2018 to finish overhead wiring.
Intersectionclosed to
vehicles
Duringthe works period, the intersection of
KingWilliam Street and North Terrace will be
closedto all vehicles. Alternate access has
beenarranged for Emergency Services and
buseswill use a designated access lane during
events.
Motoristswill be encouraged to use the Inner
CityRing Route (A21) using Hackney Road,
Park,Robe and Fitzroy terraces and Port Road.
TourDown Under:
Stage4 works have been carefully staged to
avoidmajor events where possible.
TheNorth Terrace and King William Street
intersectionwill be reopened before Stage 2 of
theTour Down Under, which travels down King
WilliamStreet and King William Road.
Constructionimpacts:
Duringthe closure of the intersection of North
Terraceand King William Street, construction
impactswill include noisy activities such as rock
breaking.Dust and vibration may also be
experienced.
Planningyour journey:
Duringthe works visitors to venues such as the
AdelaideFestival Centre, Elder Park, Adelaide
Ovaland Torrens Parade Ground are
encouragedto plan their journey and allow for
additionaltime.
Temporarydisruption to tramservices:From10pm 1 January to 22 January 2018, tram
serviceswill not be running between Victoria
Squareand the Entertainment Centre.
Substitutebus services will be in operation
duringthis period.

Stage4: North Terrace and King William Street Intersection – traffic
andpedestrian movements Pedestriansand cyclists
Accessalong North Terrace and King William
Streetfootpaths will be maintained for the
durationof Stage 4.
Pedestriansand cyclists will be able to cross at
dedicatedcrossing locations on North Terrace
andKing William Street during the works as
indicatedon the map below.
Trafficcontrollers will be on site to assist
pedestriansand motorists. Please stay safe,
particularlyat busy times and during events by
followingthe directions of traffic controllers.
Specialevents:
Pedestrianaccess to events such as Big Bash
Leagueand events at the newly opened
FestivalTheatre and at Elder Park will be
providedduring the works period, with all
footpathsremaining open and crossings
provided.
Thenorthern entrance to the Adelaide Railway
Stationwill also be reopened during major
events.
Touristcoaches and buses servicing special
eventswill be provided a special drop off and
busu-turn facility located close to the Adelaide
RailwayStation.

Finishingworks (Stage5):Finishingworks will continue into the first
quarterof 2018 and will be undertaken mostly
atnight between 8pm – 6am, with some minor
worksoccurring during the day.
Workswill also be undertaken to install tram
stopshelters and seats for the new stops
alongNorth Terrace. New light poles and wires
willalso be installed during December 2017
andwill continue across the project in January
2018.
Resurfacingof North Terrace and King William
Roadadjacent to the works will be undertaken
inJanuary 2018, along with the installation of
theFestival Plaza tram stop.
Commencementof newtram services to theEast End:Whilstthe majority of works will
be completed
bymid January 2018, there will be a period of
commissioningand testing before trams can
starttaking passengers on the new line.
