We have not shared your personal details. -- Dear Richard, Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Milly Parker and I have an acquired brain injury. Although I didn't know or appreciate it at the time, I was incredibly lucky that my disability was the result of a motor vehicle accident, and in a state with accident insurance that covers the cost of my care now. How different my life would have turned out if I'd fallen off a roof or been a victim of domestic violence but had the same injuries...I would be living at home with my mother in country Victoria, and my only income would likely be a Disability Support Pension. Instead, with some support I am able to live on my own in Melbourne. I've even created my own home business. I pay taxes and contribute to the economy. As you read this, Victoria and NSW are in negotiations with the Federal Government, trying to hammer out an agreement for National Disability Insurance Scheme that would benefit thousands of families who've fallen through the cracks. Unfortunately, these critical talks are breaking down over cost squabbling - our Premier urgently needs to hear from us so he knows what's at stake. Can you join me in writing to him today? Click here to learn more and send a quick message now. http://www.getup.org.au/VIC-NDIS <http://www.getup.org.au/VIC-NDIS?t=dXNlcmlkPTExNzU4MTcsZW1haWxpZD04OTY=> Right now, disability support in Australia is rightly described as a lottery. If that's true, I won the lottery, but most Australians are not as fortunate. In some states, if you're born with a disability or acquire one through injury, you receive absolutely no support whatsoever -- no matter how much your costs skyrocket. A National Disability Insurance plan is a reform on the scale of Medicare and compulsory superannuation: it would prevent countless families and carers from becoming impoverished and exhausted. It will introduce common-sense, low-cost reforms that would remove barriers to employment for many more people like me, saving taxpayers money over the long term. I know firsthand about the difference receiving support can mean for a chance at a full life, and I'm asking that you please join me today in making it happen. Will you write a message to Ted Baillieu now, while there's still time to make a difference? It may just be the most important thing you do this year. http://www.getup.org.au/VIC-NDIS <http://www.getup.org.au/VIC-NDIS?t=dXNlcmlkPTExNzU4MTcsZW1haWxpZD04OTY=> It's a profound thing to act to change the life of a person you will probably never meet. Thank you so much, Milly Parker, Victoria PS -- Many inspiring people have been working on the NDIS for years.
