NDSDear NDIS supporters,

On next Monday 16 July we are kicking off a campaign action on
www.everyaustraliancounts.com.au to keep the pressure on the PM, Premiers and
Chief Ministers to ensure they lock in the NDIS when they meet in Canberra on
Wednesday 25 July.

At the moment, the future of the NDIS is not guaranteed. Funding has only been
allocated for the launch sites and there is no agreement between the
Commonwealth and the States and Territories on how the NDIS will be funded in
the long term.

We would like you to submit a short statement (less than 100 words) saying why
the NDIS is important to you. From next Monday you will be able to do this
directly via www.everyaustraliancounts.com.au but before then you can email it
to me.

We want to get hundreds if not thousands of messages to put together in book to
present to our political leaders at their 25 July meeting to send a simple yet
powerful reminder about what is at stake and who the NDIS is for.

As part of this action, we are also want campaigners to again get in touch with
their local newspapers to tell them about their message and why the NDIS is
important to them.

Some of the example messages already sent to us from campaigners include:

My name is Hayden and today I received a letter rejecting my funding
application for overnight carers so I can continue living in my own home. The
letter stated four hundred people applied but only 50 were successful. What it
didn't mention was the worry and pain those 350 will go through as we apply
again and again with no guarantees. I'm only 34 but because of this I'm now
looking at life in a nursing home. Please get the NDIS happening and help me
keep my independence. Hayden, Western Australia

I'm Sandy. I'm in Year 11 and looking forward to going to uni with my mates and
then getting a job. But unlike my mates, I can't attend uni or work without two
things: personal support for 2 hours a day and a new wheelchair that meets my
needs. Because the disability system is so run-down and inefficient, I don't
get any funds for personal support or to pay for my new wheelchair. The NDIS
will do this, so I can keep learning and start my career. I think that's a good
investment in my future independence. Sandy, Queensland

The wait for an individualised plan in Victoria is currently 2yrs, if not
longer. While we wait our son's needs are getting more complex and yet the
assistance is continuously falling away. Its time families were put in the
driving seat and given a say in what they need, and that is certainty of
services and financial and planning assistance. We also need the infrastructure
to implement the rights of our disabled family members. We need to not have to
FIGHT for everything. Give us back our dignity. Implement the NDIS. Kris,
Victoria

Presently, people living with severe body function limitations have no choice
about moving freely. Currently, if you wish to relocate interstate, there is no
guarantee your current care package will remain the same, or even if you will
be allocated one, because of fragmented systems. A NDIS would allow people like
me to move interstate to pursue career and academic goals transporting their
NDIS care support package with peace of mind and continuity of funding. The
result is freedom to pursue goals and to participate as an active, productive
citizen - as all able-bodied people have the opportunity too. Jane, Tasmania

The messages can be either personal or general and they can come from anyone
who wants the NDIS introduced.

But because of the time we need to prepare the books, to make sure your message
gets in, please submit it by Thursday 19 July. We are happy to publish comments
on www.everyaustraliancounts.com.au after that, but we just won't be able to
get them published in the books.

Please support this action - it is vital that we keep the pressure on to ensure
we lock in the NDIS for the future.

Many thanks,
