Roll out of national NDIS in WA
From 1 July 2018, the NationalDisability Insurance Agency will assume
responsibility for the delivery of theNDIS in WA. The NDIS will continue to
roll out on a geographic basis and willbe fully rolled out across Western
Australia by 2020.

General questions
What are the timeframes for thetransition to the nationally-delivered NDIS?
From 1 July 2018, the NationalDisability Insurance Agency will assume
responsibility for the delivery of theNDIS in WA. The NDIS will continue to
roll out on a geographic basis and willbe fully rolled out across Western
Australia by 2020.
People already taking part inthe WA NDIS will transfer to the
nationally-delivered NDIS in a phased approachfrom April 2018. The transfer of
people from the WA NDIS will conclude byDecember 2018.
Existing clients of otherdisability support services from the WA government are
all scheduled totransition to the NDIS in the first three years of transition.
New participants will be able toapply to enter the nationally-delivered NDIS as
the Scheme rolls out in theirregion.

How will the national Scheme bedifferent to the WA-administered scheme?
The nationally-delivered NDISand the WA NDIS are identical in the ways that
count most, including taking alife time approach to support, using the same
eligibility criteria andguidelines for making decisions about supports in a
participant’s plan.
The differences are minor andinclude format used for participant plans,
different processes for participantsto choose and engage with providers, some
new terms used to describe supportsin a participant’s plan and variations to
the prices that providers can befunded to deliver supports.
Questions from WA NDIS clients
What does this change mean forclients in the WA NDIS?
All people in the WA NDIS willreceive a letter from the West Australian
government asking them to giveconsent to transfer to the nationally-delivered
NDIS. Giving consent means thatpeople within the WA NDIS scheme can easily
transfer their plan and continue toaccess the support they need.
People who transfer from the WANDIS to the nationally-delivered NDIS will
experience minimal change. Their WANDIS plan will be transferred into the
nationally-delivered NDIS either at thetime of their plan review or earlier.
WA Local Coordinators will workwith the NDIA to explain the transfer process
and support people in the WA NDISas they transfer to the nationally-delivered
NDIS.
Current WA NDIS clients willtransfer to the nationally-delivered NDIS in a
phased approach from April 2018.The transfer of people from the WA NDIS will
conclude by December 2018.
Information sessions will beavailable for participants in the WA NDIS. The
details of these informationsessions will be published on the events in WA page
and they will be promotedin newspapers and on social media.

Will any WA NDIS clients bedisadvantaged or receive a lower level of support
when they move to thenationally-delivered NDIS?
The Commonwealth and WAGovernments have agreed that people with disability will
not be disadvantagedby the transition to the nationally-delivered NDIS.
Under the WA NDIS, clientsshould be accessing supports consistent with supports
available through thenationally-delivered NDIS.
The NDIA and WA Government willwork together to ensure the transition of people
with disability in WA to thenational scheme occurs as smoothly and effectively
as possible, with minimalservice gaps or disruptions.

Will providers under the WA-NDISneed to register with the nationally-delivered
NDIS?
Yes, Providers registeredexclusively with the WA NDIS will need to register as

Providers currently registeredwith the NDIA do not need to do anything further.
In addition, informationsessions for providers new to the NDIS will be held in

How will the NDIS roll out inWestern Australia?

From 1 July 2018, thenationally-delivered NDIS will begin to be available to
new participants in theWheatbelt and Central South Metro regions.
From 1 October 2018, thenationally-delivered NDIS will begin to be available in
the Goldfields-Esperance,North Metro regions and to new participants in the
South West region.
From 1 July 2019, thenationally-delivered NDIS will begin to be available in
the Midwest Gascoyne,Great Southern, Central North Metro and South East Metro
regions.
From 1 July 2020, thenationally-delivered NDIS will begin to be available in
Christmas Island andthe Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
People currently receivingdisability services from the Western Australian
Government or otherCommonwealth programs will transition to the NDIS at
different times, dependingon where they live the type of support they are
receiving. The NDIA willcontact people currently receiving disability services
when it is their time totransition.
Existing Commonwealth and Statebased supports will continue until you are
covered by the NDIS.
All people currently receivingdisability support from the Western Australian
Government will transition tothe NDIS by July 2020.
By 2023, all eligible peopleacross Western Australia will be able to join the
nationally-delivered Scheme.
