We have listened and have put into place a series of alternative options. New Qualifications Two new qualifications will be introduced in 2012 (depending on student numbers): • Certificate 1 in Business is a 20 week course and will only be offered in First Semester • Certificate 2 in Business is a 20 week course and will be available in Second Semester We will still offer our other Qualifications: • Certificate 1 in Information, Digital Media and Technology is a 20 week course and is the revised version of Certificate 1 in Information Technology. It will only be offered in Second Semester • Certificate 3 in Business is a full year course (40 weeks) starting in First Semester Learning Pathways The introduction of the new qualifications will provide additional options to you and meet a variety of needs. Certificate 1 or 2 qualifications are designed to provide entry to an industry and a meaningful pathway to further training while Certificate 3 qualifications can lead directly to employment or higher education. One of the following options may be suitable for you: Option One in 2012: Semester 1 (20 weeks): Certificate 1 in Business Semester 2 (20 weeks): Certificate 1 in Information, Digital Media and Technology Or Certificate 2 in Business Option Two in 2012: Semester 1: No course Semester 2 (20 weeks): Certificate 1 in Information, Digital Media and Technology Or Certificate 2 in Business (depending on your existing skills and knowledge and preferred learning pathway) Option Three in 2012: Semesters 1 and 2 (40 weeks): Certificate 3 in Business To meet the entry requirements for this course you need to: • have successfully completed one of the following using JAWS or ZoomText and keyboard shortcuts: o Certificate 1 in Information Technology o Certificate 1 in Information, Digital Media and Technology o Certificate 2 in Business OR • be an experienced user of either JAWS or ZoomText • be a proficient user of keyboard shortcuts • be able to demonstrate current intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Word Course Outline Certificate 1 in Business Certificate 1 in Business has 6 units and is designed for those who want to develop basic computer skills as well as an introduction to the skills required in business. The course includes keyboarding, basic word processing, email and internet, communication skills and OHS. It takes six months to complete attending classes two days per week. Certificate 1 in Information, Digital Media and Technology This certificate, formerly Certificate 1 in Information Technology, has 6 units and provides a strong base for anyone seeking to improve their computing skills to a proficient level. The Certificate includes keyboarding, basic to intermediate word processing, email, internet and digital media. It takes six months to complete attending classes two days per week. Certificate 2 in Business Certificate 2 in Business has 12 units and will suit those people who want to continue their learning after completing either of the Certificate 1 qualifications but who do not feel ready to move on to Certificate 3 in Business. The Certificate includes intermediate word processing, spreadsheets (Excel), electronic presentations (PowerPoint), job search skills and general office skills. It takes six months to complete attending classes two to three days per week. Certificate 3 in Business Certificate 3 in Business has 12 units and provides advanced skills in Microsoft applications and is extremely useful if you are considering further study, seeking work or are currently employed and wish to develop or update your skills. The Certificate includes advanced word processing, advanced spreadsheets (Excel), database (Access), Outlook email and scheduling as well as general office skills. The Certificate takes one year to complete attending class two days per week. Software Versions All Certificate courses utilise the following software versions: • Windows 7 • Microsoft Office 2010 • JAWS 12 • ZoomText 9.1 Register your Interest Now! Register your interest now. Training Opportunity in Rockingham Area We are currently exploring the possibility of delivering a Certificate 1 qualification in Rockingham in 2012. This will depend on numbers so if you live in Rockingham or in any of the surrounding areas and want to be one of our first students, please register your interest now. Training Manuals Our Training Resource Packages for the new versions of Windows and Microsoft Office are available for purchase. To view our range of resources, visit the Educational Resources section of our online shop at www.guidedogshop.com.au These resources are comprehensive training manuals that have been specifically written for keyboard users. We have developed a range of packages that will suit beginners or those with experience in previous Microsoft Office versions who want to update their skills to 2007 or 2010. Our resource packages are available in Microsoft Word format on CD or as a direct download. Braille for the Sighted This is an ideal course for those who live, care or work with Braille users or those who would like to transcribe Braille. There is a choice of two class times: Monday evenings: 5pm to 7.30pm Wednesdays mornings: 10am to 12.30pm Classes run during term time and are self paced.
