Hello all from Trudy Ryall

Some deafblind people from Sydney area may like to attend to this below:

Workshop: Inclusion Training – An opportunity to have your say

A 1 day Workshop - Presented by Dr Christine Baxter

Dr Christine Baxter, author of 'Inclusion: Battling for Disability' is
developing a Study Guide based on anecdotes from her book. The guide is a very
practical introduction to ways of working towards inclusion of children and
adults with disabilities. It raises questions about past mistakes in disability
provision, current practice and further developments under the National
Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

In this workshop Chris will introduce and explain the format and content of the
Study Guide. Participants will work in groups and trial those aspects of the
guide of most relevance to them.

This is an opportunity for people with a disability, training course
coordinators, teachers in schools, staff in universities, TAFE's and colleges,
along with disability workers, parents and organisations, to have their say
about what is important in service delivery.

This study guide is firmly grounded in real-life experiences and practical
situations. National Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) are
listed as units of competency and training objectives. Sections, tasks and
questions in the study guide can be selected by you to meet your specific
teaching/training requirements. The material is well suited to self-paced study
and also to on-line and interactive formats.

This workshop is a great opportunity to participate in the further development
of this very practical resource. You can also expect to learn something new,
and extend your social and professional network.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Christine Baxter is a sociologist and former teacher, disability services
advisor, advocate, researcher and UNESCO consultant in Turkey and Myanmar. She
was a senior lecturer at the Institute of Special Education and Disability
Studies at Deakin University until 2000. She now continues her advocacy work,
supporting a family member with autism and as a writer, educator and public
speaker; sharing her conviction that the NDIS will help to resolve many of the
issues raised in her book.
