Write Local – Developing Writing Opportunities for People with Mental Health
Issues and Disability

The Write Local forum is a partnership between Arts Access Victoria, Public
Libraries Victoria, Writers Victoria and Write-ability (a partnership
initiative between Writers Victoria and Arts Access Victoria).
The forum will present an opportunity to explore some of the exciting work that
is being done in community based writing programs, share information about what
libraries are currently doing to increase participation in writing at a local
community level and indulge in some readings from local writers with an
experience of mental illness.
Speakers and presenters will include:
• Wendy ONeill – Manager Industry Development, Arts Access
Victoria
• Lyndel Caffrey, Workshop Leader, Reflections - Writing
Life From Banyule, Yarra Plenty Regional Libraries
• Fiona Tuomy – Mentor in Residence, Write-ability,
(Writers Victoria) and Harriet Gaffney Project Officer, Write-ability Goes
Regional (Writers Victoria)
• Phillippa Armstrong – Coordinator, Roomers Magazine
• Readings from Michael Crane, Roomers Readers, and writers
associated with the Write-ability program
The forum program will also include workshop discussions and lunch.
Write Local is targeting local library services, local councils and the new
Mental Health Community Support Services.
