Margaret and I raked and mowed one section this afternoon (between the
blackberries near us and the elderflower bush). It wasn't too hard, but would
be much faster with more people. We took care to leave any nice plants. Even
if we just do a bit over the next few weekends when free we could get it done
pretty quickly. Haven't sown the seeds yet. We pondered getting some beers in
next saturday and having a raking party?

There are also Yellow Rattle seeds and some extra poppy seeds. I'm also
collecting seeds from our Tobacco Plant which smells amazing in the

According to Monty Don, now is a good time to be sowing for next year. We
all know you ignore Monty's advice at your peril!
He also advises that the best way to prepare a long grass and weed filled
area is to rake out the area, mow over, rake up again, mow over, then
scatter the seeds and re-mow about 5 weeks later.
If we wanted to create a wildflower corridor along the length of the
fence, it'd be so much easier if we could share the work. Anyone want to
help? A petrol mower and several rakes would be really useful. We do have
extension cables if we have to use electric strimmers.
Any thoughts on Sunday afternoon?
