**** ETNI on the web http://www.etni.org.il http://www.etni.org **** Hi, Jennifer wrote.... None of them found the text difficult. All of them found that many of the questions were probelematic, to say the least, and they kept asking themselves what the examiner wanted the answer to be, and tried to answer according to what they believed or guessed was wanted. They found it very frustrating. I agree completely. My students understood the texts without any problem. They all came out and told me what each of the passages was about. They didn't find the "pencil passage" amusing and said, "It didn't seem sentimental either, but I was sure it wasn't humorous, so I thought maybe something about it that I missed was sentimental." I certainly hope something will come of the excellent petitions which have been circulated(by Ruth as well as Nina). Michele says no harm has been done, they can always take moed bet. I disagree. Retaking the tests costs money and doing very poorly on a test you expected to do well on (with good reason) destroys confidence. I don't think these are things we should take casually. I'm glad my students were given the chance to take Moed Bet, but I think it's too bad that that was the only solution. I hope that whoever makes these decisions takes Sharon Tzur's suggestion about taking fewer points off for minimal mistakes. In any case, I think that giving us better directions about how exactly to mark compositions and open answers - including examples and not just rubrics - would help us to better prepare our students next year. On a happier note - thanks to all those who helped make the ETAI conference so good! It's always so energizing and this year especially so. Mitzi --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?
